At Catapult, we’re excited to support creators who are exploring new tools and technologies, including artificial intelligence to bring their music to life. We believe innovation and transparency can go hand in hand, which is why we accept AI-generated music when it is properly disclosed in line with music store guidelines. Music stores are now requiring that AI generated content be disclosed.
What Counts as AI-Generated?
You must disclose AI involvement if any of the following elements were created or materially generated using AI tools:
- Sound recording (the audio itself)
- Composition (melodies, harmonies, lyrics, structure, etc.)
- Cover art (artwork, images, or graphics)
- Artist (AI-generated artist persona, voice, identity, or similar)
Be specific and always be honest. Clear disclosure helps your release stay compliant and builds trust with listeners and platforms.
AI Music Is Still New, Here’s What You Should Know
AI-generated music is a relatively new development in our industry. While it currently appears that most major music stores and streaming platforms are accepting properly disclosed AI content, these policies are evolving quickly.
We make no guarantee that acceptance will continue in the future. Music store rules can change, and we recommend submitting any AI-related content at your own risk. We're committed to keeping you informed, but ultimate responsibility for compliance rests with you as the rights holder.
How to Disclose AI Content
During the album submission process in your Catapult dashboard, use the AI disclosure fields or options provided. When prompted, clearly indicate which elements (sound recording, composition, cover art, or artist) involved AI generation.
Why Full Disclosure Matters
Transparency protects everyone; you, your fans, and the platform. It keeps your releases in good standing with stores that now expect clear metadata around AI use.
Important: If it is later determined that you submitted AI-generated content without the required disclosure, we may remove your content from the music stores and terminate your account. We take this step seriously to maintain strong relationships with our store partners and to keep the Catapult platform fair and trustworthy for all artists.
